I agree whit you but u can sometimes drop it accidentally, making u unable to make more tools, it have happened to me.

yes, but then you can kill yourself by going onto a server and telling people to do so or you can starve to death, find a bear too maybe

That's an option too, but players doenst really help about this.

Try jumping off a hill til you die but I find using a bear or boar is the fastest, you'll respawn with a new stone hatchet.  Drop everything in your backpack 1st in a spot you remember and is close to a respawn point, that way you're not starting over with nothing.  ?
